The AA Preamble

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

First meeting? Want help?

A Newcomer Asks  is a pamphlet that answers some of the questions that were in many of our minds when we first came into AA. You are welcome to contact us with further questions by telephone, on 03-3971-1471, or by e-mail inquiries@aatokyo.org. We can tell you what we did to get sober and help you do the same.

To our friends, supporters, and fellow members around the world:

Thank you for your concern and prayers during this difficult time. We English-speaking AA members in the Kanto region  (Tokyo, Yokohama, Chiba areas) have been relatively fortunate. Our meeting places are intact, the telephones and other communication systems work, and our meetings continue to take place on schedule. We are able to share our experience, strength and hope with each other, and to reach out to the newcomer seeking sobriety. We have what it takes for our Fellowship to continue–one drunk talking to another.

We do have concerns for members in the more seriously affected areas. Some of us have been trying to contact those they know and we have heard back from some of them. We hope to hear from others.

Again, thank you for your displays of support. Please keep us and the victims of these horrific events in your prayers.
